Classroom Integration
Innovation Lessons Can Be Integrated into Curriculum or Used as Standalone Activities

Innovation Hour
The lessons on this site are flexible and can be used as standalone activities during an “Innovation Hour,” or a Hack Day. In this format, students tackle a design challenge and are celebrated with fun titles like Big Thinker or Creative Designer upon completion.

Seasonal Activities
Innovation Lessons can also align with seasonal themes. For example, a leprechaun trap can be used as a fun back-to-school project or saved for St. Patrick’s Day in March. The Botanical Garden lesson pairs well with Earth Month in April.

Read Aloud Connections
Lessons can be linked to read-alouds to spark student interest. For instance, a STEM tower challenge can be inspired by the story of Watts Towers as a creative starting point.

Creative Confidence Boosters
Short creativity warm-ups like 30 Circles or Squiggle Birds can serve as engaging hooks for math, science, or art lessons, helping build students’ creative confidence. See examples.

Skill Builders
Innovation Lessons can also include skill-building opportunities such as painting techniques or model-making to support student creativity and craftsmanship.

Hour of Coding
See the Unplugged Coding Resources for lessons that teach coding concepts without screens.
